I, General introduction:

1, When do I need to extract sources?

When using ideas from other people’s material (for example Articles, books, or articles on the website), the writer needs to cite the sources and author the work. The writer needs to cite the source in the case of a direct quote or convey the ideas. Or else you can summarize the author’s ideas into his own words. (University of Leeds, n.d.). 2, Harvard citation style:

There are two types of Harvard citation styles: In-text citation and Reference (Reference List/End-Text Citation / Bibliography).

1, Verbatim Quotes (In-text Citation):

Verbatim quotes are used when quoting directly or interpreting a source of information. This type of citation is written right in the article.

When quoting verbatim, the writer should indicate the author’s name and year of publication of the source of references in parentheses. From this instruction, readers can search in alphabetical order the full source of the instruction manual in the reference list.

OR

This theory was first proposed in 1970 (Larsen 1971).

Page numbers are essential when quoting verbatim from work, using quotation marks with page numbers. In the case of a long document, page numbers are extremely important for readers to find information easier.

OR

‘A lot of facts have lost their correctness in this case.’

In the case of two or three authors, the names of the authors are listed (in the order listed in the original document), with “and” followed by the last author’s name.

For example:

During the mid-nineties research concentrated in Luton (Slater and Jones, 1996) showed that…

Further research (Green, Harris and Dunne, 1969) showed…

In the case of four or more authors, only the first author should be listed, after the first author’s name as “et al.” (meaning “and many other co-authors”).

If citing multiple works in a sentence/paragraph/idea in the article, the author’s name must be arranged in alphabetical order, separated by semicolons, all in parentheses.

For documents without dates, specify:

2, Reference List (End-Text Citation / Bibliography):

Reference lists are intended for readers to read the cited documents themselves.

The structure of a reference list from the Harvard citation stylebook is as follows:

First name, First letter of the name. (Publishing year). Filename. Reproduction order. (Only write the reprints if it is not the first print.) Place of publication: Publisher, Page number.

b, Quoting sources from specialized journals:

The structure of a reference list from a Harvard-style industry journal is as follows:

Last name, First letter of the name. (Publishing year). Name of the article. Journal name, issue, page number.

Similarly, for specialized online articles, structure a citation list as follows:

When quoting except articles on the Website without author names, use the following structure:

d, Citing sources from E-books or PDFs:

When quoting an E-book or PDF document, the number of editions (even if it is the first edition) should be recorded, followed by the source type (E-book or PDF) in square brackets (Example: [ ebook] or [pdf]).

Structure:

First name, First name of the name. (Publishing year). Filename. Number of editions. [format] Place of publication: Publisher, page number. Available at: URL [Access Date. Year].
